Seventy Five Hectares Of Land Developed For Rubber Cultivation
The Sarawak Agriculture Department will soon be developing about 75 hectares of land in Plasok, Skrang in the Engkilili Sub-District with a rubber cultivation project. According to YB William Nyalau anak Badak, Member of Parliament for Lubok Antu, 34 families will be involved in the project who are residents of Rumah Mani Panau, Plasok in Skrang, Engkilili which will cost about RM350,600. The project will be able to raise the economic standard of the residents. He made the statement while attending the Ngelasi Tanah occasion (a religious ritual according to the belief of the Iban community) for the Rumah Mani rubber cultivation project on last 1 October, 2010.
At the same time, he also urged rural residents to take up rubber cultivation or palm oil growing as the market of the two commodities is stable while the demand is high. He further added that both rubber and palm oil cultivation is easy to manage as compared to other commercial plants. Hence, he strongly recommended that residents of longhouses participate in the Rubber Plantation Mini Project under the Agriculture Department. The occasion was also attended by YB Dr Johnnical Rayong Ngipa, State Assemblyman (ADUN) for Engkilili. (KK7: 20 October, 2010)
