Workers Day Celebration

About 300 residents of Perumahan Lima Kedai had attended the Workers Day celebration held at Perumahan Lima Kedai Hall on 1 May 2011. The programme organised by Perumahan Lima Kedai Area Neighbourhood Watch (KRT) and Perumahan Lima Kedai Residents Committee also involved the participation of the local residents from Kampung Melayu Lima Kedai and Lima Kedai Flats. According to Salamian Surip, Chairman of Lima Kedai KRT, the event represented a tradition in the settlement which had fostered friendship among the people. In fact, the residents were able to occupy their leisure time with relaxing activities after hard work.

He said that the programme had started from morning until night with an array of exciting activities which attracted the residents such as performances by a ghazal group from Gelang Petah. YB Aziz Sapian, Nusa Jaya State Assemblyman, was also present during the programmeís highlight at night. The programme had started in the early morning with a telematch and colouring competition for children. Also organised were arrangement and cooking competitions for the womenfolk. The jury who gave the scores to participants were from the Community Development Department (KEMAS) of Gelang Patah Parliament. At the same time, a fun karaoke competition was held simultaneously from 2.00pm to 6.00pm.

The programme had continued into the night where guests were treated to a stage performance based on the Traditional Malay or classic concept. According to Salamian, 400 residents had attended the function. He also informed about the programme, Focus Motion with Central Johor Bahru Municipal Council and Darul Takzim Family Development Foundation, which was held in March 2011. In fact, a lecture on the responsibility of parents to the children and responsibility of children to their parents was also held in conjunction with the Motherís Day celebration in the month of May.
