Library, Centre for Activities

T

he Kuala Linggi Rural Library had organised a Quran Recitation Competition or Tilawah al-Quran on 11 November 2009 whereby ten Level 2 children took part. The winners were Nuratikah Ramli as the champion, followed by Iskandar Abd Malek and Burhanuddin Sulaiman who took the second and third place respectively. The winners were selected based on the fluency in reciting the Quran including the usage of correct and proper intonation. One of the objectives of the competition was to inculcate the Quran reciting culture among the children and to enhance their skills in the correct intonation and pronunciation.

Apart from that, an essay writing competition was also organised on the same day. Ten Level 2 children were involved. They had an hour to complete writing an essay based on the theme provided by the library staff. Muhd Rusdy Rustam was chosen as the champion while Muhammad Fikri Baharum and Muhd Shahfiq Asri emerged as the second and third-placed winners respectively. Indirectly, the competition had led to the discovery of new talents in the essay composition.

A number of indoor games such as congkak, batu seremban and poison box were organised in the month of December 2009. These fun and relaxing games were meant for the Level 1 and level 2 children who form the bulk of the library users. As such, they would spend more time at the library. Through the activities organised, the villagers were made aware of the library’s function as a venue for the performance of beneficial activities especially among the younger generation.
