Linggi Challenge

Various activities and programmes were organised in conjunction with the 2011 Melaka River Festival which took place in the month of June 2011. Among the events were the 2011 Linggi Challenge involving students of Higher Learning Institutions under the Ministry of Higher Learning held on 15 to 18 June, 2011. Using the concept of the ironman, the event consisted of three physical disciplines namely cycling, running and kayaking. About 200 participants took part in the event which was jointly organised by the state government, Ministry of Higher Education and the Masjid Tanah Community College. The cycling event was flagged off by YB Ir Ismail Othman, State Assemblyman (ADUN) for Kuala Linggi and witnessed by Mohd Zain Mamat, Director of the Masjid Tanah Community College and Associate Professor Dr Baharuddin Puteh, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the Melaka Islamic University College (KUIM).

Contestants in the cycling competition were required to cycle for a distance of 48 kilometres and 30 kilometres beginning from Kuala Linggi State Constituency Coordinating Committee Complex for the male and female categories respectively. The female category participants taking part in the run and kayak competitions gathered at the site at Taman Rempah on 17 June, 2011 while the male category was held on the following day. The purpose of organising such events was to enhance the self-development of the participants apart from being able to determine the level of physical and mental fitness in facing challenges and obstructions faced throughout the events. The involvement of the local authorities has helped to promote the Ministry of Higher Education and brought a closer understanding among the parties involved. (KK10: 21 June, 2011)
