Ba Kelalan

Internet Through VSAT

In order to fulfil the government’s mission of increasing the mastery in information technology and communication (ICT) among the residents, various proactive approaches have been executed through the Universal Services Provision (USP) Programme. These programmes come under the purview of the Ministry of Energy, Water and Communications (KTAK) with the collaboration of various government departments and agencies as well as other telecommunication companies. Some of the government agencies involved in these projects are Education Ministry, Health Ministry, Public Works Department, National Library and State Library.

Together with 500 other locations nationwide, Ba’ Kelalan District is fortunate for being chosen to enjoy the benefits under the USP programme. Although located in the interior of Sarawak, the government has provided the villagers with benefits through ICT instruments, such as a rural library. The library is provided with several computers, printer, scanner that can be used by residents of Ba’ Kelalan especially the Lun Bawang community.

In order to give the residents an opportunity to access information, Very Small Apparatus Satellite Terminal (VSAT) is installed for them to access the internet using the provided computers. Usage is free.
