Cultural Festival And Ba’ Kelalan Apple Harvesting

The Borneo Jungle Safari and Ba’Kelalan Homestay have jointly organised the Cultural Festival and Ba’Kelalan Apple Harvesting on last 4 to 7 April, 2012 at Buduk Nur in Ba’Kelalan. Organised for the first time in the year 2007, it also receives the support of the ministry of Tourism, Tourism Malaysia and Sarawak Tourism Board. Visitors and local residents were able to harvest the various types of apples such as the Granny Smith, Lady Williams, Apple Anna, Manalagi (renamed as Ba’Kelalan Apple), Tropical Beauty and Rome Beauty during the said festival. Visitors were also able to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Ba’ Kelalan which offers eco-tourism products based on its location at the border of Indonesia and the Kayan Mentarang national Park in Kalimantan.

The festival did not only attract local tourists but also those from neighbouring countries such as Sabah and Brunei. Most of them travelled by land as the road condition has improved since it was upgraded. Visitors were also entertained to cultural performances as well as tourist awareness courses especially for those who were interested in the tourism field. The festival also saw homestay operators in the mountain areas of Ba’Kelalan taking part for the first time in an effort to promote their homestay programmes. (Last Update: 13 April, 2012)
