Engkilili Badminton Open

As the Engkilili Badminton Open would be held in Engkilili in February 2012, an organising committee for the competition was formed to collect the necessary information for its organisation. The tournament which received strong support from YB Dr Johnnical Rayong Ngipa, Engkilili State Assemblyman, was aimed at uncovering badminton talent among the youth in Engkilili State Assembly. He also highlighted the possibility of the tournament for Veteran and Non-Veteran categories to be opened to residents in the Sri Aman to Lubok Antu areas.

Prior to this, Rayong had presented a cheque for Rural Small Projects worth RM3,000 to the Sri Aman Division Badminton Association through the Sri Aman Team Open Badminton Tournament 2011. A total of 15 squads from five teams that were Sri Aman, Kuching, Bintangor, Sibu and Saratok had participated in the tournament. Also present were ASP Ang Tuan Peck, Sri Aman District Police Chief; Zapar Sepawi, Chairman of Sri Aman Division Badminton Association; and the Association’s committee members. The Sri Aman Team Open Badminton Tournament 2011 offered a cash prize of RM1,500 and medals to the champion, RM800 and medals to the runner-up and RM400.00 cash to the third place winner. Mini Job Placement Programme

A Mini Job Placement Programme (3P) was organised by the Sri Aman branch of Sarawak Labour Department at Engkilili Multipurpose Hall on 12 November 2011. Held from 8.00am to 5.30pm, the 3P Programme was aimed at creating job opportunities and open interviews for applicants. In fact, it enabled the people to find jobs that met their needs and qualifications. A career exhibition and Labour Law Advisory Services were also held on that day. On the whole, the 35 Job Placement Programmes organised by JTK Sarawak throughout 2008 to 2010 had succeeded in placing 3,572 job seekers in the job market.

The programme also received good response from employers in Sarawak whereby 573 employers had participated and offered 39,235 vacancies. The job seekers comprising school leavers, graduates from Institutions of Higher Learning, parents and the public were encouraged to bring relevant documents for the purpose of interview during the 2011 Sri Aman Labour Department 3P Programme. They also took the opportunity to register online through the JobsMalaysia system available at the registration counters. The mini 3P Programme had assisted many employers to meet directly with local job seekers to fill positions in their companies thus reducing the intake of foreign workers.
