PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s airports bagged two awards at the 2009 Asian Freight and Supply Chain Awards (AFSCA) for Best Green Airport and Best Emerging Airport.

KL International Airport (KLIA) was named Best Green Airport while Penang International Air-port was named Best Emerging Airport during the awards in Hong Kong on April 22.

Malaysia Airports managing director, Datuk Seri Bashir Ahmad, said they were pleased with the achievements.

“While KLIA added another award into its long list of accolades, the Penang airport’s success shows it has good prospects to compete in the region,” he said.

KLIA recorded 27.5mil passengers movements for the year 2008, while Penang International Air-port registered 3.4mil passenger movements.

The AFSCA is organised by leading transport and logistics newspaper Cargonews Asia.
